Lesson 1 · The Moves

Hit — Drawing a Card

Hit means asking for another card. You do it when your total is too low to compete with the dealer.

Basic rule: if the dealer can have a strong card and you are below 17, consider a Hit.

Examples

Hard 8 vs 7
3♣3♣3
5♥5♥5
YOU
VS
7♥7♥7
DEALER
✓ Hit

You have 8, dealer shows 7. Hit — 8 is too low to stand.

Hard 12 vs 2
2♦2♦2
K♦K♦K
YOU
VS
2♣2♣2
DEALER
✓ Hit

You have 12, dealer shows 2. Surprising but true: Hit — the dealer doesn't bust enough vs 2.

Common mistake

Refusing to hit 14-16 against strong dealer cards out of bust fear. Against a 10, hitting 16 loses less than standing — in the danger zone, 'less bad' is what correct means.

Guided practice

Try 5 hands from the category you just studied before the quiz.
