Lesson 3 · Surrender & Rules

DAS, ENHC and Other Rules

DAS (double after split) and ENHC (European No Hole Card) change some pair decisions.

With DAS=no, some pairs change from split to hit. With ENHC, surrender is not available.

Examples

P2 vs 2 with DAS
2♥2♥2
2♥2♥2
YOU
VS
2♦2♦2
DEALER
✓ Split

Split — with DAS it is worth splitting.

P2 vs 2 without DAS
2♥2♥2
2♥2♥2
YOU
VS
2♦2♦2
DEALER
✓ Hit

Hit — without DAS the potential gain does not justify the split.

Common mistake

Ignoring the fine print. Without DAS, splits like 4-4 vs 5-6 and 6-6 vs 2 turn back into hits; in European no-hole-card games, big doubles against a 10 or ace risk the whole bet to a dealer blackjack.
