Lesson 3 · Card Counting

The Running Count

The running count is the sum of every tag since the shuffle. It starts at 0 and each card nudges it by +1, 0 or −1.

Positive count → the shoe that's left is rich in big cards → good for you. Negative → the dealer's territory.

Examples

3, K, 7, 4 → +1

+1 −1 0 +1 = +1. Four cards in, the shoe leans slightly your way.

Cancel in pairs

A ten next to a five is zero (−1 +1). Spotting cancelling pairs is how counters keep up with a fast dealer.

Guided practice

Try 4 hands from the category you just studied before the quiz.
